| The main aim of the American
Studies programme is to facilitate an understanding of the United States of
America which, at the beginning of the twenty-first century, is the world's pre-eminent power.
To this end, a wide variety of approaches to understanding American
culture and society are explored and a large number of different disciplines are
involved.
