The Department was founded in 1979 and has built up a strong international reputation for its work in language teaching methodology, teacher education, materials development and - more recently - the attempt to make language teaching approaches and methods more appropriate to the social and cultural settings of students and teachers around the world - "Appropriate Methodology".
