The college now offers a web-based service for accessing your e-mail account.  You can use this site to access your college mail from any machine that has Internet access – at your home, a cyber café, another college or university, and so on.  Staff or students who have been using the ‘anise’ web address to access their e-mails should move over to Webmail now, as the anise link will be removed soon.

Open your Internet browser (Internet Explorer), and type in the address: http://webmail.cant.ac.uk. (or you can click on this link).  You will see a welcome page, asking for your username and password – use the account details for your college e-mail account.

v     The system will ask you if you want it to remember the password - you may say ‘Yes’ or ‘No’ but for security reasons, you will not be able to have your password remembered.

v     To manoeuvre between the folders and pages, use the buttons at the top of each mail folder screen; or use the ‘Back’ arrow at the top of the browser screen.

v     To compose a message, click on ‘Create’.  When you are ready, click on ‘Send’ and then use the ‘Back’ arrow on the browser to return to your Inbox.  To save a message to the ‘Drafts’ folder, click on the ‘Draft’ button.  To return to your Inbox without sending or saving the message, click on ‘Inbox’.

v     To change folders, from the Inbox click on ‘File’.  Click on the down arrow of the window to find the folder you want.  Click on the folder name; click on ‘Select’.  You can also change folders by scrolling to the bottom of the folder you are in, and going through the same selection process.

v     To create a new folder, click on ‘File’ when you are in the Inbox; type the new folder name in the field in the lower half of the prompt screen – you do not need to enter anything in the ‘description’ field.  Click on ‘Create’.

v     To move a message, open the message and then click on ‘File’.  In the prompt box that appears, you can select an existing folder, or create a new folder; the message will then be ‘moved’ to that folder.  Alternatively, click on the check-box of the message or messages you wish to move, then select the destination folder, or create a new folder, as given above – you can move many messages at once this way.

v     To delete a message, click in the check-box to the left of the message title.  When you have selected what you want to delete (this can be more than one message at a time) click on ‘Delete’.  Alternatively, you can move one or more messages to the ‘~Deleted’ folder, where they will stay until you delete them by checking the box(es) and clicking on ‘Delete’

v     PLEASE NOTE: Addresses: You will need to create your Webmail address book(s) from scratch, and update them from within Webmail; address book information and details are held separately in the Webmail program, and will not be carried over from your Simeon address books, nor vice versa.

v     PLEASE NOTE: Folders:  Any folders you create in Webmail will not be visible in Simeon, although they are ‘still there’ when you return to Webmail.  Folders created in Simeon will be available in Webmail.  Also, Simeon supports an Inbox divided into folders if you set it up that way; Webmail cannot support a divided Inbox.
