Access to information sources relating to radio, film and television is
available through the links below. They are only a selection of some of
the available resources. You can use internet search engines such as AltaVista or InFIND, or information gateways such as
the ones below to discover more.
Information gateways work in a
similar way to library catalogues, in that they allow you to search for
information on a specific topic and then direct you to relevant
resources on the World Wide Web. They help you to find quality
information quickly on the subject you are looking for.
- ADAM Information Gateway (the Art,
Design, Architecture and Media resources gateway) is a searchable
online catalogue of internet resources. Subjects covered include
animation, film and video, general media, news media, radio and
television. You can also browse the database by subject.
- The Arts
and Humanities Data Service (AHDS) is a national service
which collects, preserves and promotes the re-use of electronic
resources resulting from research in the arts and humanities.
One

is
The Visual
Arts Data Service.
The
BUBL Subject Tree is a good starting point for all subject
areas. More specifically, there are links for Broadcasting,
Radio, Television and Film
Studies.
SOSIG
(Social Science Information Gateway) is an online database of high
quality World Wide Web resources . You can read descriptions of
internet resources and then access them directly. There are both
search and browse facilities.
- A list of sites included in the Avant-Garde/Experimental Film
Webring is provided by Yahoo.
- BBFC: British Board of Film Classification
has its own web site. On it you will find a history of the BBFC, an
outline of classification policy, details of recent decisions,
information on how to submit works for classification, etc.
- The Cinema Connection includes links for cinema history, directors,
documentaries, genres and subjects, independent cinema, production
resources, screenwriting, tv shows, world cinema and much more.
- The Internet Movie Database
contains information about movies from across the world, ranging from
early cinema to the latest releases and movies still in production. The
database covers over 130,000 movies with over 2 million filmography
entries.
- The Movie
Review Query Engine is a gateway to over 50,000 movie reviews
available on the Internet.
- The Academy of Motion Picture Arts
and Sciences has its own home page on the World Wide Web. You can
use it to find out anything you want to know about the Oscars, up to and
including this year’s awards.
- The BFI Home Page
covers many aspects of the UK film industry. Here you can find
information about the British Film Institute, the National Film Theatre,
the Museum of the Moving Image, the National Film and Television
Archive, film festivals and film production, distribution, funding and
sponsorship.
- The
American Film Institute's directory of film and media fan sites
includes links to over 16,000 sites.
- The
Film Noir Web Links page will lead you to a number of useful sites
relating to film noir.

Voice of the Shuttle: Media Studies Page
All
the e-journals listed below are published on the World Wide Web.
This means that the full-text of all the articles from each issue can be
accessed electronically - no passwords are required.
FindArticles.com
is a database containing "hundreds of thousands of articles from
more than 300 magazines and journals, dating back to 1998". You can
search for full-text articles within a specific magazine or within all
the magazines in a specific subject category. Alternatively, you can
search the entire database.

American Film Institute
Catalog contains comprehensive information, including plot summaries
and cast lists, on every feature length film produced or financed by
American production companies between 1893 and 1970. Search terms
include title, cast and crew, character name, genre and year. N.B.

PCI
(Periodicals Contents Index) Full Text is another online periodicals
search service on the Web. Coverage on PCI extends from the first
year of publication up to and including 1990. You can even find
references to articles published in journals as far back as the
nineteenth century. As of this year, some full-text journals are to be
added to this service. For a list of Radio, Film and Television periodicals

Web of
Science is a service on the World Wide Web which allows you to
search by subject for periodical article references and then email the
resulting references to yourself.
There are three
ISI citation indexes
which will be of use to
RFTV students: Arts & Humanities , Science, and Social
Science. Coverage is from 1981 to the present.
