POLICE ADVICE

Awareness, common sense and a positive attitude can all add confidence and minimise the risk of a possible attack.

  • Be aware of your surroundings, and strange men asking directions

  • Do not walk alone at night

  • Stay in well lit areas and places where there are other people

  • Always walk in the middle of the pavement, away from high fences or hedges

  • Do not be tempted to hitch lifts with strangers, even if they claim to be taxis or mini cabs

  • Keep money for a taxi, using a bone-fide firm you know

  • Carry a personal attack alarm

  • If approached or put in fear, dial 999 and contact the police immediately

Students may obtain alarms through their Student Union or College.

Alarms are also available at a small charge from the Police Station.
