POLICE ADVICE
Awareness, common sense and a positive attitude
can all add confidence and minimise the risk of a possible attack.
- Be aware of your surroundings, and strange men
asking directions
- Do not walk alone at night
- Stay in well lit areas and places where there
are other people
- Always walk in the middle of the pavement, away
from high fences or hedges
- Do not be tempted to hitch lifts with strangers,
even if they claim to be taxis or mini cabs
- Keep money for a taxi, using a bone-fide firm
you know
- Carry a personal attack alarm
- If approached or put in fear, dial 999 and contact
the police immediately
Students may obtain alarms through their Student
Union or College.
Alarms are also available at a small charge from
the Police Station.
